Moist to dry loam soils. Full sun to part shade. Flood intolerant. Columnar to ovoid form. Edge of woods, savanna, and alluvial bottomlands. Fragrant white flowers. Edible black fruits. Yellow to orange fall color. Very high wildlife value.
