Deciduous shrub : Ht. 5-6' W 6-8'. 

Prefers well-drained sandy-gravelly loam soils. Full sun to part shade. Yellow flowers in May followed by small red berries. Found along oak openings and upland woodland borders. Excellent for erosion control.
